Despierta America without doubt, is one of my favorite TV shows, and the segment “La Cocina de Karla” is one of my favorites since I love to cook. Each time I watched the segment, I dreamed someday I could be there and share with others my love for cooking. Sooner than I expected my dream came true.
Thanks to many people, especially my sister Maity, I was able to have this experience. One day, I arrived at Despierta America and the show director, Luz Maria, asked me if I wanted to be part of the cooking segment with my sister. I couldn’t believe it and without thinking about it I said yes. I was really excited only with the thought that I was going to cook live in the show.
Since early that night, we started with all the arrangements and preparations. I barely slept, that night due to the excitement. I woke up very early to start chopping y preparing the ingredients; luckily I had the unconditional help of my mother and sister.
When I arrived to Univision I had to my provision, a complete kitchen outside the set, with many containers and utensils for me to use. In the middle of many cameras and many people that were going from one place to another, with the help of friendly people we started to arrange the finished plates so we could present them the best way. Time passed very quickly, they took me to makeup room to do my hair and apply some makeup; I was ready to go on air. Little time was left as I became even more nervous.
When we were live, I forgot all the nerves; I tried to remember what I had reviewed last night and what many around me had said, “always smile to the camera, never stop talking, talk in a normal pace” but the thing is that I stopped worrying, and I did it (or so do I think) spontaneous. The few minutes live, went very quickly, but it was a nice experience, I enjoyed it a lot, I was very happy all the effort and work paid off.
Thank you Despierta America for this opportunity that will always remain in my heart. I invite you to live again this unforgettable moment with me.
