Oatmeal with Caramelized Apples & Crumbles

Turn a classic oatmeal  in something more than breakfast with this twist with Caramelized Apples and Crumbles. Trust me… you will be left, asking for more.

Ingredients

Oatmeal

2 cups oatmeal

85 ml milk

Crumbles

63 g butter

38 g sugar

30 g brown sugar

salt

1/2 orange zest

125 g cake flour

Caramelized Apples

2 apples

50 g sugar

20 ml lemon juice

30 g butter

Directions

Oatmeal

1Cook the oatmeal with the milk according to brand instructions.

Crumbles

1Mix together the butter, sugars, salt, orange zest, and cake flour until the butter absorbs the dry ingredients & small pieces begin to form.

Caramelized Apples

1Peel the apples and cut them into small cubes, then cover them with lemon juice.

2In a saucepan on medium-high heat, melt the butter and dissolve the sugar.

3Add the apples with the lemon juice and stir until completely caramelized.

Assembling

1When the oatmeal is ready, place on an oven-proof casserole/baking dish. Place a layer of caramelized apples and finish with the crumbles as topping.

2Bake for 5 minutes to 350F or until lightly browned.

  • apples can be replaced by other fruits such as: pears, strawberries & peaches
  • regular milk can be substituted with almond milk
  • add fruit/nuts to the oatmeal for a better taste
